A few days ago, THQ Nordic organized a showcase dedicated to the new products to come in the coming months. Among them, the return of a major video game license: Alone in the Dark. Indeed, in 1992, the game Alone in the Dark shook the small world of PC video games, with a survival-horror type game unprecedented in its genre, which will inspire a certain… Resident Evil a few years later. An Alone in the Dark then edited by Infogrames, and directed by Frédérick Raynal, who won several prizes in the early 90s, and who is the pioneer of a genre that has since been very popular and coveted in the 90s/2000s: survival -horror.
Alone in the Dark is also back in 2023!
And the good news is that Alone in the Dark will make its big comeback, probably in 2023, under the supervision of THQ Nordic, which has owned the license for 4 years already. This will be a version “redesigned” from the first episode, featuring Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, all cooked up by the teams Pieces Interactive. The game will allow you to embody the two characters, obviously with events and places that will differ for each, like a certain Resident Evil 2.
A survival-horror genre that has been back for a few years now, thanks in particular to the various remakes of Resident Evil and to the opus VII and Village (but also more discreet titles like Tormented Souls), but which could, in 2023, revive “the great era” to players of the 2000s. Indeed, not content to find Alone in the Dark in a few months, lovers of the genre will also be able to scare themselves (again) with the highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 Remake, expected in March 2023.
But that’s not all ! Indeed, those who like to play while hiding behind their controller will also be able to discover another highly anticipated remake next year, namely Dead Space. The American Electronic Arts is indeed preparing the great return of this much appreciated space-horror saga (and born in 2008 on Xbox 360 and PS3), with again a complete overhaul of the first episode.
Towards ever more survival-horror (with Silent Hill)?
And that’s (still) not all, since a few days before the transition to the year 2023, fans of the genre will be able to discover a brand new license: The Callisto Protocol. A horror video game developed by Striking Distance Studiosfounded by Glen Schofield, the latter having notably been at the origin of the series… Dead Space.

A few weeks later, players will have an appointment with another highly coveted survival horror, namely Layers of Fears. This is the new episode of this terrifying saga developed by Bloober Team, which promises a dive into absolute psychological horror, like The Medium from the same studio or Blair Witch.
What if 2023 also marked the return of another horror license very (very) popular with fans: Silent Hill? It is indeed an insistent rumor that has persisted for a few months now, with the Polish guys from Bloober Team at the helm, who are said to be working on a remake of the second opus, which initially appeared on PS2 at the very end of 2001.
A license that has had its ups and downs since the first opus on PlayStation in 1999, but which remains very dear to the hearts of many fans, who have been waiting for a new episode for ten years now…

Finally, while Capcom has taken a malicious pleasure for a few years in bringing its Resident Evil up to date, after the first three opuses, and Resident Evil 4 Remake to come at the beginning of next year, fans continue to dream of the remake of another flagship license from the Japanese giant dating from the end of the 90s: Dino Crisis. Some believed it recently, when Capcom revealed a game with dinosaurs, which integrates a character with a look very similar to that of Regina, the heroine of Dino Crisis, before finally formalizing an astonishing (and a little disappointing) Exoprimal.

Still, Capcom should continue to enjoy the success of its remakes a little longer, probably with that of Resident Evil Code Veronica, but let’s hope that the studio will also be able to hear the complaints of its fans regarding Dino Crisis. To see now if all these licenses will really make their return in the more or less near future, but if you are a fan of the survival-horror genre, the months to come will undoubtedly make you shiver with happiness (and not only) .
