This time there it is, after a slight ignition delay, Andor will be broadcast from September 21 on Disney+. The new Star Wars series remains quite mysterious, even if trailers have already been unveiled. Anyway, viewers are warned, do not expect to have fan service, nor to see big names like Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Darth Vader arrive in the middle of an episode.
And it was the showrunner of the series, Tony Gilroy, who recently said so in an interview with variety. Concretely, there will be many characters borrowed from the extended universe of the saga, but ” never fan service “. That is to say that each protagonist present will be there for the need of the story, but never to please the spectators.
Andor offers a very surprising temporality
While some may regret this choice, it seems to us to be wise to say the least. Star Wars seems to have made the rounds of the intrigues of the Skywalker family, even if new series could see the light of day soon.
Recall that the series will star Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). The story takes place five years before the events of RogueOneand we will follow the adventures of this spy whose involvement is essential for the rebellion.
Tony Gilroy has already returned to the very particular temporality of this Star Wars creation: “ The scale of the series is so huge. The directors work in blocks of three episodes, so we did four blocks (in the first season) of three episodes each. We looked and said, ‘Wow, that would be really interesting if we came back, and used each block to represent a year. We will get closer to a year with each block. »
He adds : “ From a narrative perspective, it’s really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and then skip a year. »
We will not be long in judging the relevance of this choice. Appointment is already made on Wednesday, September 21 on Disney + for the broadcast of the first episodes of Andor.
