By marketing computers with new in-house chips, Apple has apparently found the magic formula to boost its computer market share. Indeed, according to preliminary estimates from Gartner, Mac sales were close to 10% (9.3%) in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same period a year earlier.
The most surprising in these is that when we look at the side of the competition, Apple seems to be the only one to post such results. On the whole, PC sales are falling all over the world, while Mac sales are growing strongly. Incidentally, Apple would be according to Gartner passed in one year in front of Acer to establish itself in 4th place among the biggest sellers of computers in the world.
Apple sold almost 10% more Macs in the second quarter of 2022
The ranking is still dominated by Lenovo (17.863 million units sold over the period), HP (13.506 million) and Dell (13.268 million). But Apple with 6.365 million units sold realizes, if confirmed, its best result for years. The firm has every chance of gradually climbing to the level of sales of its two most immediate rivals.
Especially if sales of the latter continue to contract. Dell would indeed have experienced a drop in sales of 5.3% over the period, Lenovo -12.5%. As for HP, the contraction would have been much more intense: -27.5%. On average, computer sales fell 12.6% over the quarter worldwide. This allows us to appreciate even more the good performance of Mac sales in the 2nd quarter of 2022.
If Apple scores points in computers, it is because the firm seems to be convincing with its new lineup of MacBook Air, Pro, iMac and other Mac Minis equipped with its new in-house M1 and recently M2 chips. These new silicon deliver a hitherto unknown ration between incredible performance, especially for tasks such as video editing, and simply interstellar autonomy – which is close to 20 hours in intense use.

All for prices which for once are not necessarily much higher than that of competing products – whose capacities often struggle, moreover, to hold the comparison.
