It’s a real thunderclap in Brazil. The Ministry of Justice comes neither more nor less than to prohibit the sale of iPhone in the country. The main reason is clearly cited by the Brazilian authorities: Apple refuses to sell its smartphones with chargers.
And the measure does not stop there, since Brazil has decided to impose a fine of 2.3 million dollars on the Tecg giant each day that Apple violates this marketing ban. Apple therefore has no other choice than to interrupt its marketing, provide a charger to its customers, or pay this fine.
France also forces Apple to provide headphones
Of course, this announcement comes at the worst time for the Cupertino company, which will unveil its new range of iPhone 14 tonight. Brazil is certainly not its main market, but it is nevertheless a country with a large population and with a large middle class.
In the past, this South American nation had already scrapped against Apple, always on the same subject. Thus, in 2020, the consumer protection body in the state of São Paulo was not satisfied with the environmental justification provided by the apple brand for the absence of chargers.
Already that year, the minister responsible for consumer protection was also planning to force Apple to include a charger in its packaging for devices sold throughout Brazil.
Note that this is not the only country where Apple has had problems with its new strategy. While the company no longer provides headphones with its smartphones, French law obliges it to do so.
As the text states: Radio terminals intended to be connected to a network open to the public for the provision of the telephone service may not be marketed without an accessory making it possible to limit exposure of the head to radio emissions during communications “.
Finally, the Tech giant complied and French consumers still benefit from this accessory when buying an iPhone.
