With the democratization of telework, following the Covid-19 pandemic, a multitude of people can now work from home… Even if it’s on the other side of the world. Provided, of course, that you have a good Internet connection. While Thailand has lost a slew of tourists due to the health crisis, the country is trying to bring foreigners back. For this, it will offer an extremely advantageous visa.
Thailand, the dream destination for “digital nomads”
According to the Nomadlist community, Thailand is the paradise for globetrotting teleworkers. The quality of the internet connection (of course) but also a pleasant climate and the attractive cost of living have a lot to do with it. To compensate for the loss of millions of tourists each year, Thailand has therefore decided to bet on these workers of a new kind.
In order to boost the economy, which tourists no longer irrigate as much, Thailand is opening its doors even more to digital nomads with the creation of a 10-year visa. To benefit from it, note already that freelancers are not concerned. If this is your case, however, a “smart visa” is available for four years.
If you hope to take advantage of Thailand’s 10-year visa, you must be a tech, automotive, biotech, and electronics executive for a Thai company, be a millionaire, or be a telecommuter. But in the latter case, there are some conditions to respect. Thus, you must have earned $80,000 on the year for the past two years, have 5 years of experience, and work for a company with a turnover of $150 million over three years. In addition to enjoying a rather pleasant living environment, this “LTR” visa (for long-term resident) also offers tax advantages for its beneficiaries.
With this new visa, available from September 1, Thailand hopes to make up for the shortfall left by some 32 million tourists lost due to the pandemic. The government estimates that holders of this LTR visa will contribute $28,000 each to the country’s economy.
