More than ten years ago, James Cameron created the event in the cinema with the launch of Avatar. A franchise initially conceived as a trilogy, which should eventually include a total of five films, and whose second opus (The Way of the Water) is expected in a few months. Also, in order to allow as many people as possible to get back in the bath while waiting for this second film, Disney has decided… to relaunch Avatar in the cinema.
The first Avatar back in the cinema!
Indeed, from September 23 in the United States (and probably September 21 in France), it will be possible to (re) watch the first Avatar with all the comfort offered by a dark room. Note that the American giant has already removed the film from the Disney + catalog, a way of encouraging as many people as possible to return to the cinema to watch this first Avatar. A decision that obviously makes people react…
In its defense, Disney promises that the film which will be screened next month in theaters has benefited from a complete restoration, and will notably be screened in 4K HDR quality, but it will also be able to be viewed in IMAX and in 3D in compatible theaters. . This new version of Avatar will be temporarily available at the cinema, since Disney evokes a window of only two weeks.
At present, it is difficult to know if Disney will put the standard version of Avatar back online once the two weeks have passed, or if Disney + subscribers will be able to directly find this new restored version. In all likelihood, the film will be back before the theatrical release of the sequel, still expected for this month of December.
Since the release of Avatar in 2009, no less than 13 years have passed. A new generation of spectators has arrived, and Disney therefore wishes to allow them (as well as their parents) to enjoy the first Avatar in the best conditions, before discovering its sequel which will offer a very elaborate maritime universe.
