DJI is preparing a competing robot vacuum cleaner from Roborock, Dreame, Xiaomi and iRobot. The news has just been shared by the famous leaker DuanRui, best known for his stolen info and photos of Apple accessories and products. A first step in home automation which, if it turns out to be real, would give DJI the opportunity to reach a very lucrative new market.
We know DJI to democratize products with more accessible prices and a more intuitive and better thought out overall experience. If the Chinese brand is in the development stage, its robot vacuum cleaner could therefore be released more in 2023 or even 2024. It is difficult to know more when no other information is available about the product. The information should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
DJI against Amazon with iRobot?
In any case, the information comes in a very special context: last week, Amazon announced the acquisition of iRobot for 1.7 billion euros. With this announcement, the American e-commerce giant has therefore also invested in the market, after that of surveillance cameras and voice assistants in home automation. With iRobot, Amazon forms the American response to Chinese products, even more so if DJI chooses to join the market.
Why do so many brands choose to market tech products for the home? According to data from Data Bridge Market Research, the market should exceed 50 billion dollars this year, to swell up to 90 billion dollars by 2029. Home automation products are also more interesting when they are compatible with each other , and a brand can easily retain customers with one product and then have them buy other home accessories.
At DJI, learning with cameras, drones, stabilizers and microphones now allowed him to know how to develop his own applications available on smartphones. An application for the home would be an opportunity to develop a whole range of equipment in addition to a robot vacuum cleaner. It could also be surveillance cameras.
