The screen design is one of the main new features of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Indeed, on these two models, Apple has finally abandoned the notch in favor of cutouts on the screen on which the front camera as well as the Face ID module for facial recognition are positioned.
Apple is lagging behind its competitors since, for their part, Android smartphone manufacturers have abandoned the notch for a long time, on their high-end products. However, the Cupertino company gave a lesson in software optimization to all these brands, presenting Dynamic Island.
Indeed, instead of letting the cutouts ruin the design and ergonomics, Apple exploits the space occupied by them in order to provide new software functions.
An equivalent of Dynamic Island on Android
While waiting for the disappearance of these cutouts, in favor of invisible front cameras, it is possible that Google or manufacturers of Android smartphones will take inspiration from Dynamic Island to camouflage the cutouts on the screens of their devices. After all, brands have always copied each other.
But for now, it’s third-party app developers who seem to want to fill this new gap in Android. While Apple only formalized its new iPhones and Dynamic Island a few days ago, a developer has already created an equivalent of this feature for Xiaomi smartphones.
Android is a highly customizable operating system. And as for Xiaomi, it even allows developers to create “themes” that modify the interface of its MIUI operating system (based on Android).
As Android Authority reports, a Chinese developer has already created a theme for Xiaomi smartphones that mimics how Dynamic Island works.

Unfortunately, for the moment, it is a Chinese theme which is not available in French or English. In addition, the developer is still waiting for the green light from Xiaomi so that this new theme can be offered on the brand’s theme store.
But in any case, the video shows that it is relatively easy for a developer to create Android apps that will offer functions similar to those of Dynamic Island on iPhone. And moreover, it is to be expected that other developers will follow suit.
In addition, it should be remembered that even before the presentation of this feature from Apple, apps to camouflage the cutouts on the screens of Android smartphones (for example with a battery gauge) already existed.

Dynamic Island: Apple’s Best Kept Secret
Several months before the presentation of the iPhone 14 series, we already knew almost everything about these new smartphones. However, as to how Apple would camouflage the cutouts at the screen level, the first info circulated only a few days before the keynote.
Therefore, unlike other novelties, such as the 48 megapixel camera on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, or the replacement of the notch by cutouts, Dynamic Island was a real surprise.
According to the explanations of Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, if the name “Dynamic Island” did not leak in the media, it would be partly because Apple registered the trademark in Jamaica. However, according to the journalist, “You can only search for trademarks registered in Jamaica by physically going to the country’s trademark and patent office. »
Apple trademarked “Dynamic Island” in Jamaica on July 12th. This wasn’t discovered because of a fascinating reason: you can only search for trademarks filed in Jamaica by going physically to the country’s trademark and patent office. The Reality Pro trademarks were global.
