It did better than the Tesla Model 3. In July, the Peugeot e-208 became the best-selling electric car in France. A feat with 9,712 copies sold and delivered over the first six months of the year. The Dacia Spring and Fiat 500 electric, despite their competitiveness on price and design, will not have succeeded in doing better than the French brand.
At the start of the school year, its sales could still increase. In the range, a new entrance finish range arrives. It is called Like and is already part of the finishes offered on the thermal range. In fact, its sales should even start on August 19, but Peugeot has yet to confirm it. From now on, the entry ticket will no longer be that of the Active finish, of 34,550 euros.
The new price of the Peugeot e-208
Peugeot therefore wants to hit hard with a new entry ticket to the electric e-208 around €32,000. The zero-emission city car will still be eligible for the 2022 ecological bonus of 6000 euros. The latter concerns all models under 47,000 euros in the catalog. When ordering, it will be better to choose an e-208 Like before January 1, 2023 when the ecological bonus will be revalued at only 5000 euros.
The rest of the e-208 range is concerned. The Active, Style, Allure and GT trim levels cost no more than 40,000 euros. At the competition, it is not possible to afford a Tesla Model 3 with this bonus while the entry ticket starts at 53,490 euros. On the other hand, the new pricing of the Dacia Spring at less than 20,000 euros makes it possible to equip yourself with an electric car at an unbeatable price.
The city car was slightly cheaper a few months ago, but its prices are still better than those of the electric Fiat 500 from 24,500 euros in France. In terms of autonomy, the Italian remains far from what the French competition from Peugeot can offer today.
The Peugeot e-208 with 400 kilometers of autonomy
This is indeed the second big surprise planned by Peugeot. In addition to a more attractive price, the e-208 Like is supposed to offer 400 kilometers (WLTP cycle) according to information provided by the brand. More efficient, the city car would do better than the e-208 Active and its 362 km of autonomy. Smaller and lighter rims (15 inches), thinner tires and a few less equipment would drive weight loss and therefore energy saving.
See you on August 19 to find out more about the characteristics of this new entry-level electric Peugeot. And in 2023, a restyled range is on the program, as is most certainly an electric 308, for the second half.
