We are used to Facebook outages, when the service becomes inaccessible, but not to news feed bugs. This morning many many users of the social network were surprised by the flow of publications that have nothing to do with the photos and other publications of friends that usually appear on the news feed.
Indeed, the software that selects the publications to display on Facebook’s news feed had a bug. And instead of showing posts from friends or pages they follow, the News Feed featured posts that strangers made on celebrities’ Facebook pages.

I open Facebook this morning, and my wall is flooded with people posting memes or autopubs on celebrity pages. I hope it will be fixed quickly, otherwise it breaks all the interest of this social network#facebookdown #facebookhacked #bugs

So I know that Facebook is used less and less by our generation, but it’s only me where Facebook bugs and where I have messages from strangers to stars on Facebook? Because my feed this morning is just that. 😅

And to make matters worse, people decided to bombard these celebrity pages with memes, knowing that these images would appear on other users’ newsfeeds because of the bug.
According to the explanations of the site The Verge, this bug lasted for hours. But it looks like this has already been fixed. And this was also confirmed by a Facebook employee, who posted a message on Twitter.
“Earlier today, a configuration change caused some people to have issues with their Facebook feed. We have resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone involved and we apologize for any inconvenience.”can we read in this publication.

No, that wasn’t the new newsfeed
In any case, know that your news feed will certainly change soon and this time it will not be a bug anymore. Indeed, faced with competition from TikTok, the social network has decided to develop a major update to its mobile application.
The feed that currently appears when you open the Facebook app will be replaced by a new tab called “Home”. It will be a kind of content discovery engine where the social network will display relevant publications, without necessarily taking into account the accounts or pages followed by the user. It is also on this section that Facebook will highlight the Reels, videos in a format inspired by TikTok.
“This is where you’ll discover new content through recommendations in addition to connecting with friends and family.” From Home, you can also create a Reel, see what your connections are sharing on feed and in Stories, and build a community around new and shared interests. Your Home tab is uniquely personalized using our machine learning ranking system. This system considers thousands of signals to help reduce clutter and rank content in the order we think you’ll find most valuable.”explained the social network.
To really keep following the profiles, pages and groups the user is subscribed to, another section, called “Feeds”, has been created. But this will be secondary.
