Game of Thrones was not yet finished, that we were already discussing new series based on the universe imagined by the author George RR Martin. And on Monday morning, the first episode of one of these GoT spin-off series finally aired.
The new series is titled House of the Dragon and it chronicles events that happened almost 200 years before Game of Thrones. Of course, this successor to GoT was highly anticipated and has the potential to become one of the most popular series in the world.
At the time of writing this article, we do not yet have precise data on the audience of the first episode of House of the Dragon. But in any case, it would seem that even HBO not expecting the massive influx of Internet users triggered by the broadcast of this first episode.
As a reminder, in the United States, the series is broadcast on HBO Max, Netflix’s competitor. And according to a Bloomberg article, after the release of the first episode, streaming service outages were reported via the Downdetector site.
For its part, Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of HBO, tempers by explaining that the first episode was successfully viewed by millions of subscribers.
“We know that a small portion of users who attempt to connect through Fire TV devices are experiencing issues and are in the process of resolving those issues”also indicated a representative of the company, quoted by Bloomberg.
As a reminder, in France, the series is broadcast by OCS, and a priori, there was no breakdown, just a small problem of latency when the first episode was released.

Will HBO replicate the success of Game of Thrones?
The first episode of House of the Dragon airs more than three years after the last episode of Game of Thrones. GoT was the series of all records, and the final episode was particularly popular, with an official figure of 19.3 million viewers.
Game of Thrones also broke records on illegal download services. And moreover, today, the series is still in the Top 10 worldwide, according to data from Parrot Analytics. In the month of June, its popularity was comparable to that of Better Call Saul.
Another series is already in preparation
HBO seems to want to capitalize as much as possible on the work of George RR Martin. Indeed, while House of the Dragon is just getting started, another series is already in the works.
For example, in June, the author confirmed that a series based on the character of Jon Snow is in the works. “Yes, it was Kit Harrington who brought us the idea. I can’t tell you the names of the writers/showrunners because it hasn’t been cleared for release yet…but Kit brought them in as well, his own team, and they’re great”, had written the author in a blog post. But for the moment, it is still possible that this project will not materialize.
