Many of them, in recent years, have filmed their ascent of Kilimanjaro. Their respective adventure, more or less difficult depending on the profiles, is available on YouTube. And their shots on top of the roof of Africa are on Instagram. A momentum that has all the more influenced tourism on the highest mountain in Africa, located in Tanzania.
By the end of the year, conditions up there will improve. Not that the climate will be milder there (well… yes) but that the summit of Africa will now be connected to a broadband connection. Internet arrives at the top of Kilimanjaro, so that “tourists can communicate with the whole world at its peak”tweeted the Tanzanian Minister of Communication and Information, Nape Nnauye.
Open door to mass tourism
At a time when the highest peaks in the world are increasingly popular with mass tourism, part of the controversy lies in this new measure in Tanzania. The number of visitors will increase all the more and that is never good, while the ascent of Kilimanjaro remains a very demanding exercise and reserved for a prepared public.

The Minister argued, however, that the arrival of the Internet will improve the security of the place. Kilimanjaro sees up to 35,000 people a year and good communications can help prevent relief. But of course, the investment to install the Internet there is mainly motivated by boosting tourism and encouraging people to post their exploits on social networks to bring in even more people.
3.6 million views
Tanzania is one of the African countries where in addition to local Chinese investments, the economy runs largely thanks to tourism. Last year, the country recorded $1.4 billion in revenue from this domain. The roof of Africa, with its snow-capped summit, its week of hiking and its registration at UNESCO, contributes enormously to the presence of tourists, in addition to safaris.
Volcanic, Kilimanjaro is the highest isolated mountain in the world. For comparison, Mont Blanc (which does not belong to this category) culminates at 4,807 meters above sea level. Among the influencers to have gathered the largest audience in her ascent of the mountain, we can note Léna Situations. In a 46-minute format where the emphasis was on surpassing oneself, no less than 3.6 million views were collected in less than a year.
