The iPhone 14s will all come with iOS 16 out of the box – and developers and beta testers can already install the Release Candidate on their device. In other words, the last beta version before the launch of the stable version – an iteration that is generally almost bug-free.
But Apple has just revealed the date on which iOS 16 will be available on all compatible iPhones: the new mobile operating system is coming on September 12, 2022.
iOS 16 arrives in stable version on September 12… which iPhones are compatible?
Apple remains faithful to its reputation since many old models, released up to 5 years ago, are compatible with iOS 16. Only the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are out of the list of compatible models with iOS 16 this year:

Among the main new iOS 16 features, there is a redesigned lock screen, boosted with AI, which makes it possible to display dynamic elements such as the time behind a person or a pet for example.
Notifications become much more practical, iMessage acquires an Edit button, and SharePlay is enriched. In addition, Live Text is enriched with features that allow you to interact with the displayed content of a paused video, for example.
For example, if iOS detects a currency amount, a quick action lets you convert it in one step. The Wallet application is also enriched. Identity card, driving license, but also electronic keys…
The app will soon be able to confirm your identity with third-party sites and services and allow you to securely share your car keys with loved ones.
How to install iOS 16 on D-Day, and what to do if you can’t wait
To install iOS 16 on September 12 when the new system is available, it’s very simple:
- Go into Settings > General > Software Update
- Click on Install the update
It is also possible to install a rather stable version of iOS 16 before this date with the following method:
- Open Safari on your iPhone
- Go to this page
- Touch Register
- Touch Enroll your iOS device
- Download the beta profile or click here to do it directly
- Go to the Settings to install the profile
- Restart your iPhone
- Go into Settings > General > Software Update
- Click on Install the iOS 16.0 update
