A few days after the presentation of the four models of the iPhone 14 series, we begin to have elements allowing us to get an idea of the popularity of these.
This year, for the Apple ecosystem, is quite special. Indeed, the firm has concentrated the novelties on the Pro models, while the standard models (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus) have a little too much in common with the iPhone 13 series.
To give us an idea of the popularity of each iPhone, analyst Ming Chi Kuo observed the delivery times of these during the pre-order period. Indeed, if the delay is long, it means that the product is selling well. On the other hand, short lead times may suggest that demand is not high.
Regarding the iPhone 14 series, Ming Chi Kuo states in a post that the “pre-order results” for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro and the two standard models are “good, neutral, and bad, respectively (compared to the iPhone 13 series). »
“Although the iPhone 14 series product lineup is improving and the iPhone 14 Pro Max pre-order is better compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the pre-order result is currently neutral for Apple”also indicates the analyst.
At the moment this is only based on pre-orders
At the moment, it seems too early to tell if Apple will increase shipments for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. But according to Kuo, it is increasingly likely that the firm will reduce orders for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
Delivery times for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are said to be over four weeks, which is a good sign. On the other hand, with regard to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, the analyst explains that these should be available in stock on launch day. “As things stand, the pre-order result for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is worse than for the iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 13 mini”Kuo also explained.
As a reminder, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature the same A15 Bionic processor as last year’s iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Pro models, for their part, benefit from lots of new features, such as the new A16 Bionic chip, the screen without notch, Dynamic Island or the 48 megapixel camera.
But if the elements mentioned by Ming Chi Kuo can give us a first idea of the popularity of the models launched by Apple, caution is still in order, because it is probably still too early to draw definitive conclusions. We should certainly have more precise data on the sales of the iPhone 14 series after a quarter of marketing.
And as noted by our colleagues from the 9to5Mac site, analysts “generally expect more from the Cupertino company than from other smartphone manufacturers. »
The media also reminds us that it is important to take into account the specificity of each market: for example, the iPhone SE 3 was not very popular in the USA, but it sold well in Europe. And it is still possible that in some countries a large number of users just want to buy a new iPhone with XXL screen (so, the iPhone 14 Plus) without needing all the novelties of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
In any case, what is clear is that Apple took a risk by differentiating the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus too much from the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
