For a few years now, Twitter users have dreamed of being able to “edit” a tweet a posteriori, as is the case on other networks such as Facebook or Instagram for example. A few months ago, Twitter indicated that it was working on an “Edit” button, and in particular on its mode of operation. Today, without warning, Twitter has once again communicated on this much desired functionality, the deployment of which is imminent.
The “Edit” function is coming to Twitter!
Via its official account, Twitter has therefore decided to publish the following message: “If you see an edited Tweet, it’s because we’re testing the edit button. It’s happening and everything will be fine.“In testing for a few months now internally, the “Edit” function will therefore be deployed in a more global way, but will remain at the test stage for the time being.

Indeed, Twitter indicates that only subscribers to the Twitter Blue offer will be able to take advantage of this feature in the coming weeks. Twitter, however, specifies that everyone will be able to see if a tweet has been modified, including users who do not participate in this test phase.
Twitter also explains that this new feature will allow users to modify their tweet after its publication, for a short period of time, to correct typos, add keywords… For the upcoming test, tweets can be modified during 30 minutes after their initial publication.
Edited tweets will display with an icon, timestamp and label so readers will know clearly that the original tweet has been edited. Tapping on the label takes you to the tweet’s edit history, which includes previous versions of the post in question. Simple and effective then.
“Initially, the test will be localized to a single country and will expand as we learn and observe how people use the Edit Tweet feature. We will also be very attentive to the impact of this feature on the way people read, write and use tweets.” indicates the American network. It remains to be seen whether (and when) this function will be deployed for all Twitter users.
