Two years ago, Kobo announced yet another e-reader, Nia, a model cut out for small budgets, with its price set at less than €100. It was then an alternative to the brand’s other flagship reader, Clara HD, offered at 119€. Today, the brand formalizes a brand new model, called Clara2E, which is not only water resistant, but also 85% recycled.

Kobo Clara2E: an e-reader made from recycled plastic
A new generation reader therefore, which retains a 6″ screen and the ComfortLightPro mode, but which is also waterproof (IPX8). The manufacturer announces that the reader can be submerged for up to 60 minutes under 2 meters of water. The other characteristic of this Clara2E is its design, since the latter benefits from a shell whose assembly was made from 85% recycled plastic.
On the Kobo side, we explain how to obtain the materials for the Clara2E reader from plastic bottles found in the ocean, but also from old CDs and DVDs. Note that the packaging of the reader is for its part made of 100% recycled paper, enough to make this new Kobo a more “eco-conscious” than ever.
The new Kobo Clara2E also has a better HD Carta 1200 e-ink screen without reflection, not to mention a Dark Mode, which allows it to be comfortable both in the dark and in full light. It comes with a total of 16 GB of storage, double what the Clara model offered, and has a Bluetooth module (to connect headphones to it), in addition to Wi-Fi for web connection.
For the rest, there is a 170 gram reader, which has a 1500 mAh battery, enough to ensure weeks of autonomy.
In terms of availability, this new Kobo Clara2E reader will be available from September 22, at a price of 129 dollars in the United States (and probably 149€ here).
