When will Sony’s PS5 be revealed? It’s a question we’ve been asking for months, and the current coronavirus situation certainly hasn’t made it any easier to predict. But now it seems more and more likely that we are very close to something big. Rampant rumors say that Sony has its next-gen event scheduled for some point over the next few weeks, and the evidence is really starting to pile up.
Earlier in April, reliable source VGC reported that Sony had “recently” planned to reveal the PS5 in May. However, the publication was unsure if the Japanese giant would be forced to change those plans due to the aforementioned coronavirus. Still, the report gave us something to go on.
And this is where things start to add up. Informed GamesBeat reporter Jeffrey Grubb hints that Sony’s event could take place on June 4, but it looks like a real PS5 hardware reveal could be coming sooner than that. This makes us think Sony might just unveil the box itself in a blog post or video – just like it did with the DualSense controller.
Then we have the tweet that holds it all together. Following the announcement of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X event, which will take place next week, famed scoop-master Jason Schreier was asked when Sony’s event would be happening. He replied: “A few more weeks, I believe.”
Right now, everything points to Sony’s PS5 event happening later in May or early June. Or potentially both – it’s still hard to say how Sony will handle this. But the bottom line is that the wheels are turning – it won’t be long before we see the PS5 and its games.
