The electronic communications regulatory authority (Arcep) announced on Monday that telephone numbers starting with 06 and 07 will be reserved exclusively for communications between individuals from January 1, 2023. The idea is to limit unwanted calls suffered by the users.
It is indeed not uncommon to deplore the harassment of a sales department. If the numbers starting with 09 are commonly used, it often happens that they use 06 and 07. And for good reason, it is a fairly effective way to deceive our vigilance, and we are then more inclined to answer them.
An effective measure?
In its press release, Arcep very clearly justifies its decision: The Authority reserves the use of mobile numbers in 06 and 07 – durably attached to a user in the minds of all – exclusively for interpersonal communications services. “. And the independent administrative authority to continue:
Non-interpersonal uses of mobile numbers will therefore switch to other categories of numbers, such as the new category of the new category of numbers in 09 for platforms mentioned above or that of extended-length mobile numbers.
Arcep wants to be even more precise concerning the numbers in 09 which ” could for example be used to establish conversations by messages between a brand and its customer, or for very short-term use of telephone numbers for certain situations of ephemeral contact via a platform (parcel deliverers, VTC drivers, etc. .) »
This is therefore good news for individuals, even if it is nevertheless doubtful that this will discourage untimely sales canvassing. Significant financial stakes are at stake, and the actors involved will not admit defeat. But we can nevertheless hope that the new rule will bring a little more clarity for consumers.
For the time being, there are certain means of protecting against telephone spam, in particular the reporting of numbers and their blocking. The bloctel service can also be used, although many criticize its inefficiency.
