Elon Musk just made the announcement on Twitter: “Following the wide rollout of FSD 10.69.2 beta, the FSD option price will increase to $15,000 in North America starting September 5th. The current price will be honored for all orders before September 5, even if the delivery takes place after”.
Despite the software still in beta – and a somewhat misleading name (Fully Autonomous Driving is essentially a level 3 driver assistance system on a scale that has 5 levels), the brand’s customers may think more before select the option when purchasing their vehicle.
Tesla: Fully Autonomous Driving option increases to $15,000
Elon Musk says nothing about the price of the subscription FSD option, available in North America for $199 per month – the price of which should not change immediately. The price increase should be reflected in the more or less distant future by an increase in the price of the Fully Autonomous Driving option in other markets such as France.
For the time being, however, Elon Musk makes no allusion to an immediate increase in the Fully Autonomous Driving option in France. In France, the price of the Fully Autonomous Driving option therefore remains at €7,500 for the time being – a price that has remained the same since 2021.
When it was launched, the FSD option was only billed at $5,000 in North America. But as of 2020 and the arrival of the first beta, the price of the option has appreciated by $5,000 – to reach $10,000. The following year, the option price had risen again, to $12,000. Elon Musk presents Teslas as “commodities that increase in value over time” – and reserves the right to increase the price of such options.
The boss of the automaker has even suggested that the price of the Fully Autonomous Driving could eventually reach $100,000 “as the system moves closer to certified fully autonomous driving capability”. As you were told, despite a price now at $15,000 in North America, the option is still far from delivering a driving system that no longer requires the driver’s attention.

We are essentially still on a driving assistance system as found in many competitors. The driver must also keep his hands on the wheel and remain attentive in order to regain control at all times.
After wide release of FSD Beta 10.69.2, price of FSD will rise to $15k in North America on September 5th.
Current price will be honored for orders made before Sept 5th, but delivered later.
