The usually reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo gives new information on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, just over a week before their presentation on September 7, 2022. We have known for several months that these models will benefit from sensors significantly improved photos. But their data sheet remained a question mark until then.
However, the analyst thinks he knows the characteristics of their wide-angle sensor – a sensor whose characteristics traditionally still have a lot of room for improvement. Currently, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have a 12 Mp assembly on this sensor with 1 µm photosites. However, Apple would have decided to innovate this year by integrating a new sensor equipped with photosites of 1.4 µm.
The iPhone 14 Pro will take a leap forward in the photo
On the downside, the component would be 70% more expensive. The new sensor would be manufactured by 5 different manufacturers: Are, LG Innotek, Minebea, VCM and Largan. And this is not the only improvement in the technical sheet of the photo part. The main sensor on the Pro models is said to be a 48MP module capable of shooting 8K video – hopefully with the same mastery of video quality that already makes iPhones ideal for 4K recording.
At the front, the selfie sensor would also be significantly improved with a larger sensor, a focal length of f / 1.9, and the arrival of autofocus to enhance the quality of photos and videos in all light conditions. , including at night. Non-Pro models should benefit from more classic photo sensors. Their technical sheet would indeed be very close to that of the iPhone 13 photo set.
In addition, we already know that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will offer great improvements in almost all areas. In particular, they will have better batteries, a more advanced and powerful chip, and a new LPTO screen capable of dynamically adjusting the refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz and delivering the Always-On functionality.
