Launching this Friday, the Amazon Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power starts on the wheel caps. The Tech giant has indeed announced that this prequel was viewed by more than 25 million viewers during its first day of broadcast. This is a new record for the streaming platform. This figure does not take into account the very many pirate broadcasts, which gives a real idea of the enthusiasm around this fiction.
Amazon Prime Video plays big with The Rings of Power
As we explained to you last week, the firm of Jeff Bezos plays very big on this project which would have cost him a billion dollars in total, just for the eight episodes of this first season. For the time being, the bet seems to be held, and we generally appreciated this launch. You can also read our cross review of Rings of Power.
Also as expected, the series also suffered online review bombing. For example, on the Metacritic site, the public rating is currently only 1.9 out of 10, while the press is rather positive with a rating of 71 out of 100. The same is true on the Rotten Tomatoes platform with 84% favorable opinion on the side of professional critics, but only 39% among Internet users.
Unfortunately, many comments surrounding the series are toxic, and many criticize the presence of female characters whose place would be too important. Others criticize the series for its too great diversity. But as our colleagues from We Got This Covered, these criticisms are of little value. The Internet users in question already had a very clear opinion on this prequel even before its release. They were just waiting for the signal to be given to comment on these specialized platforms.
