In recent months, Twitter has been constantly under the spotlight. After weeks of suspense, Elon Musk has formalized his intention to buy the microblogging platform. And an agreement between the two parties was reached in April, for an amount of 44 billion dollars.
The problems are linked for Twitter
While it should be a mere formality, the deal is ultimately not finalized. Indeed, Elon Musk disagreed with the way Twitter counts the percentage of bots and fake accounts present on the platform and ultimately, this one walked out of the deal.
However, Twitter wants to enforce the terms of the deal and force Musk to buy out the company. Thus, the two parties are today opposed in a legal battle in the USA.
And as if that were not enough, recently, the former head of IT security at Twitter filed a complaint in the United States, accusing the platform of serious breaches in the protection of the data of its users.
For Jack Dorsey, Twitter shouldn’t have been a business
It is in this context (while the moderation of the platform is also pointed out), recently, the founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, recently evoked his biggest regret concerning the microblogging platform. Responding to a question from a netizen, Dorsey said his biggest regret and Twitter’s biggest problem is that it’s become a business.
The biggest issue and my biggest regret is that it became a company.

For him, Twitter should have been a protocol that would not be owned by a state or a company. The founder of Twitter would have liked to make it a decentralized system comparable to Bitcoin or e-mail.
There is already Mastodon, and Jack Dorsey also wanted to create a protocol for which Twitter could have become a client
Moreover, it should be noted that the decentralized alternative to Twitter already exists. This is Mastodon, whose operation is precisely often compared to that of e-mails.
But after a brief buzz after its inception, it failed to make a name for itself alongside major online platforms. It should nevertheless be remembered that before leaving the management of Twitter, Jack Dorsey had laid the first groundwork for the creation of a mechanism which would have made it possible to have a decentralized social network on which Twitter was later to become a client. .
“The reason I have so much passion for #Bitcoin is largely because of the model it demonstrates: a foundational internet technology that is not controlled or influenced by any single person or entity. This is what the internet wants to be, and over time it will be more and more of it”Dorsey said in January 2021.
“We are trying to do our part by funding an initiative around an open, decentralized standard for social media. Our goal is to be a customer of this standard for the public conversation layer of the Internet”he also explained, while he was still at the head of Twitter.
